Eight years ago my girlfriend Brenda invented a device that cured her horse of a treatable, but basically incurable, condition (belly insect barrier). She mused aloud to me ”I wish I could make this into a business.” ”Poof!”, I said! That’s what I do! We created a website, marketing campaign, business cards, strategy, and she started selling her product that same year. Since then she’s invented the world’s more innovative horse fly mask, and marketed that internationally, landing a licensing deal in Europe. All of this has been done in our so-called ”spare time” (between midnight and 6 AM – ha ha!) and she’s still working her regular job. But now the word is spreading about her incredibly unique products, and even without advertising she is getting great business (of course she has to start advertising again, just costs money, you know). Check it out http://www.elitehorseclothing.com This is one of 13 startups I have been involved in. It’s like an addiction! Or maybe a hobby . . . so far only my own business has paid me any money (consulting and writing Scrappy books like Scrappy Project Management, one of the top PM books in the US, and translated into Japanese last year). Glad to be part of this scrappy group!
